SATC Style

Between the movie posters on every street corner inviting us to “get Carried away,” our newsstand morphing into a small Sex and the City shrine, and the Sarah Jessica Parker’s talk show omnipresence, we’re a little fatigued. Don’t get us wrong, we’ve all seen the movie (some of us a few times) and welcome the fabulous foursome’s return, but the promotional onslaught is sapping our SATC spirit!

Instead of letting the marketing monster get us down, we’re focusing on what we love best about Carrie and crew: the clothes. Today, we’re going to the fashion heart of the matter and spotlighting one of our favorite ensembles from the film. The white one-shouldered frock might be vintage and the shoes may be semi sold-out, but with a little ingenuity, a Carrie-inspired look is totally possible.

Tracy Matthews Small Criss Cross Cuff ($45)

If you don’t have a classic gold cuff in your jewelry box, we’d like to propose this attainable version for your consideration. This textured bracelet would be appropriate with a wide range of outfits and it exactly echoes the one on our muse’s wrist—perfect!

3.1 Phillip Lim Orchid Dress ($468.75 on sale)

The dress Carrie wore in the movie was a reworked vintage piece (Pat Field chopped the floor-grazing gown to an above-the-knee-length and added the enormous flower), but we knew we could find a modern version. 3.1 Phillip Lim’s strapless Orchid Dress has a unique neckline and the gorgeous golden metallic fabric will look amazing on most skin tones. Wear it for summer cocktail parties with Gucci sunglasses and then carry it into fall with the right blazer and a pair of tights.

Kenneth Jay Lane White Flower Necklace ($88)

Flowers are one of Carrie’s signature touches and a major part of this movie look, so naturally we needed at least one! We think this Kenneth Jay Lane white enamel flower necklace is a nice nod to our inspiration outfit.

Abas Patent Leather Frame Clutch Wallet ($158)

We love the unexpected color choice of Carrie’s bright yellow bag and found a similar style for you. This patent leather skinny clutch pushes the look into fashion-forward territory and is available in the same electric lemonade shade.

Baker’s Candice Platform Sandals ($69.95)

Carrie’s Dior Extreme Gladiator Platforms ($770) might be the unofficial star of the movie considering how much buzz they gotten. Your best hope for snagging these sold-out shoes is putting your name down on the waitlist (310.247.8003), but you might like these super affordable alternatives in the meantime.
